Adopting A Simple Food-Weaning Techniques For Combating The Age-Long Malnutrition Among Infants In The Developing Nations
In most developing nations, children especially those from low income earners are majorly fed on weaned-starch-base foods which are cheap and ubiquitous.
Studies have revealed that this monster and many more factors like poor nutrition education and the high cost of commercial weaning foods are responsible for this problems of Protein-energy malnutrition seen everywhere among children of poor economic status in developing nations( according to Akpo et al.,1995).
It is disheartening however, that uptill now no special attention is paid to infant foods. Children are fed family diets which are of high bulk volume and low nutrients thereby rendering the diets unsafe and unsuitable as infant foods

Efforts have been made in a bid to wean infant diets that contaibn not only adequate nutrients but also ensure that each nutrients are contained in their right propotion using a low-cost and simple techniques
Legumes are widely employed in this respect simply due to their high protein content In combination with starchy foods that can amen each other in their adequate percentage thus improving nutrients composition in the diets. Examples of such legumes include but not limited to : Soybeans, Bambara nuts, Maize, etc
However, investigations have elucidated that protein value of those food commodities has appreciable amount of Amino acids and a relatively high conc.of Lysine and Methionin at 6.6% and 1.3% respectively ( NRC, 2005)
