Intro:
Snail is a small animal which belongs to the phylum Molluscs. It is a Nocturnal animals, ci mean,it is very active at night and early in the morning. The animal is invertebrate as well cold blooded.
Snail lives in cool places; in the wild they can be found under leaves, rotten wood debris,and stones. The whole body is made up of:
• Shell(23-40%)
• Edible portion or Foot(30-40%)
• Visceral (20-23%)
• Liquid which makes up the remaining percent (27%)
The animal is in no way imposing threats on the environments in that they are environmental loving. Rearing them doesn’t involve huge startup fund or technical know-how. It is a simple and non- hazard posing domesticatable animal. Keeping Snails require least or less fund and space compare to other livestock farming.
Advantage of Keeping Snails
It is a good provider of animal protein at about 18% crude protein of considerable high biological activity
It is a good source of employment/ income
It’s carcass is highly nutritious and contains all essential amino acids like Lysine, Methionine, among others
Its clinically proved to have a basic cure for all fat related ailments such as Hypertension, heart failure etc.
It is an ideal source of raw materials especially in animal feed formulation and production.
The meat is a good provider of Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus, potassium, etc as well as Essential vitamins like Vit.ABEK which aid In the deployment of primary nutrients like CHO,Protein, Lipid
